Office Manager

Description of the position:

Under the direction of the Borough Manager, the Office Manager is responsible for a variety of administrative functions in compliance with State and local codes, and ensures that these services and programs are provided efficiently and effectively. The Officer Manager is an important member of a small management team.

The person in this position will demonstrate a high level of personal integrity and ethical behavior with a proven record of technical competence and a commitment to life-long career development and learning. This person will understand the positive value of developing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, elected officials, and the public. He or she will be well-versed in applying technology to further organizational efficiencies and demonstrate high attention to detail.

The Office Manager will support the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of the Borough. He or she will model integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity and respect for all persons and appreciate racial, cultural, and gender diversity. The person in this position will gain valuable experience in all phases of public administration in municipal government. Chief of Police – The Borough of Narberth

Description of the position:

The Borough of Narberth is conducting a search to fill the position of Chief of Police. Narberth is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia and is surrounded by Lower Merion Township. The Borough is one of many neighborhoods located on the historic Philadelphia Main Line. The Chief of Police is responsible for supervising all police personnel, and plans, schedules, coordinates, and directs their activity while providing for the protection of lives and property, prevention of crime and enforcement of laws and ordinances within the Borough’s boundaries.

Narberth has an estimated population of approximately 4,305 residents (2017) and includes a total area of .5 square miles. The Police Department employs 4 full time officers and is currently recruiting.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the position include:

Knowledge regarding law enforcement agency management, community policing strategies and initiatives, budgets, grant preparation, planning, hiring, policy development, information technology and leadership. Command level municipal police experience is a plus.


Requirements for this position include:

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration or related field from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience; at least ten years of policing experience which includes a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in law enforcement; and current Pennsylvania Act 120 certification.

A Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration or related field; successful completion of advanced training such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command or equivalent is a plus.

A comprehensive medical examination, psychological examination and extensive background investigation will be required prior to appointment. The salary range for the position is between $105,000 and $118,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The Chief of Police position also includes a generous benefits package. The successful applicant must be a United States Citizen and must live within 7 miles of the Borough of Narberth within 6 months of employment.

The Narberth Borough Civil Service Commission announces that a written examination for the position of Police Officer will be held at the Narberth Borough Municipal Building, 100 Conway Avenue, Narberth, PA 19072 on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 9:30 AM. All applicants must report to the testing room by 9:00 AM on the day of the examination.


  • 21 years of age or older before the deadline for application
  • Establish permanent residence within a fifteen (15) mile radius of the Narberth Borough Municipal Building within one (1) year following permanent appointment
  • Degree from a college or university
  • PA Municipal Police Officer Training Program Graduate (Act 120) or be eligible for Act 120 certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • US Citizenship
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer and pass pre-employment evaluations.


Probationary Officer base annual wage of $67,909 with a mid-year raise to $69,267 according to current Labor Agreement. Annual promotional opportunities are available. Class A Officers (3 years’ experience) base salary as of July 1, 2018 is $92,353.
