How to Dispose of Oil-Based Paint
While you can’t throw it away, there are several ways to dispose of oil-based paint safely. Consider these this simple option:
- Stop by a local hazardous waste drop-off event. Montgomery County, PA has scheduled events throughout the year. View the 2023 Hazardous Waste Collection Flyer.
Oil-based paint contains chemicals that contaminate soil and water. You can never throw it in the trash, and it’s illegal to do so in most states.
How to Dispose of Latex Paint
You can throw away latex paint, but make sure to do it properly. Follow these three easy steps to safely get rid of latex paint.
- Latex paint is not hazardous. By reducing the collection you can dry or thicken latex paint by adding a paint hardener or kitty litter. Put the lid back on the can and put it in the trash, inside a trash bag and be mindful not to make the bag too heavy for collection. Use multiple bags if necessary to avoid delays in trash collection.
